People in developed societies may find it difficult to imagine that an adolescent girl can fail to get sanitary pads when that time of the month comes. Unfortunately, this is the reality lived by most adolescents in low income societies like Uganda. To make matters worse, girls often use unhygienic materials thereby exposing themselves to dangerous infections and other reproductive complications. Sometimes women and girls in poor countries like Uganda use things like sawdust, sand, and even ash instead of sanitary pads during menstruation. You can imagine the health risks involved!
